21th Annual Celebrate Canada Day in Mill Woods
Welcome to the 21st Annual Celebrate Canada Day in Mill Woods event. Every year it gets better and better. We are looking at a few changes this year due to the success of this event.
The big change this year is the location of the Main Stage and the Children’s Activities. We have decided to move the stage to the bottom of the bowl area of Mill Woods Park this year, depending on the weather. This change is designed to enhance everyone’s enjoyment of the stage entertainment. We realize that it was hard to get good a good seat and still hear everything going on at the stage. By placing the Main Stage in the bowl area, we can use the area’s natural amphitheatre shape. That way you can find a spot to watch the proceedings and still be able to hear everything. If the area is too wet, then we will move the stage to the usual spot by the pond.
With the stage going in the bowl, that means the Children’s Activities have to go somewhere else. Due to the popularity of these activities, we have decided to move them to a flat area towards the Mill Woods Recreation Centre, directly north of the new artificial turf field. This will allow better visibility as well as safety of the activities. We believe that this change will make a better overall family experience.
We need volunteers to help make this year’s event another success. Every year, we use about 200 volunteers to help make this event a success. Volunteer shifts are only 3 hours long but we need your help to fill all the positions needed for the day. Please contact Shane via phone at 780-760-0667 or by email at mwcanadaday@shaw.ca to volunteer. All volunteers will be fed after their shift and an official event t-shirt. We have a variety of positions available.
Back by popular demand will be our Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. This event is open to all the volunteers for Canada Day and will be held just after Canada Day. It is a BBQ and our special THANK YOU to all our volunteers because you help make the event a success. More details will follow for our volunteers.
Please check out the volunteer information form contained within this month's Newsletter. It gives you an idea of what and when we need help with. Young, old and somewhere in between, please get involved. Without your support, this event won't happen.
REMEMBER: We broadcast our event via Short Range FM Radio on 88.1 FM. Remember to tune in.
